Getting Started with Lynx
Welcome to Lynx, your private alternative to cloud productivity tools. With Lynx, you can securely store and manage your files, calendars, notes, and documents all in one place. This guide will walk you through the steps to get started with Lynx on your desktop, mobile device, and how to install OnlyOffice for an enhanced document editing experience. Let’s get started!
1. Connecting Your Desktop/Computer to Lynx
Step 1: Download and Install the Nextcloud Desktop Client
- Visit the Nextcloud Client Install page to download the appropriate version of the Nextcloud client for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
- Follow the installation prompts to install the client on your computer.
Step 2: Set Up Your Account
- Open the Nextcloud desktop client.
- Enter the LOGIN URL privided in the email after registeration.
- Enter your account credentials (username and password) provided in the email.
- Once logged in, the client will sync your files and folders from the cloud to your local machine. By default, these files are stored in the Nextcloud directory on your computer.
Step 3: Access Your Files Locally
- Your Nextcloud directory will now contain your cloud files, synced directly from the platform. You can access and work with these files just like any other local file.
- Any changes you make to files in this directory will automatically sync back to the cloud when connected to the internet.
2. Connecting Your Mobile to Lynx
Step 1: Download and Install the Nextcloud Mobile App
- Go to the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and search for "Nextcloud."
- Download and install the app on your mobile device.
Step 2: Set Up Your Account
- Open the Nextcloud app on your mobile device.
- Enter the LOGIN url provided in the email sent after registeration.
- Enter your username and password to log in to your account.
Step 3: Access Your Files
- Once logged in, you can browse your files and folders stored on Lynx. You can also upload new files from your mobile device directly to Lynx.
3. Installing OnlyOffice on Desktop and Mobile for Document Editing
Desktop (Windows/macOS/Linux)
Step 1: Download and Install OnlyOffice
- Go to the official OnlyOffice website and download the version of OnlyOffice for your operating system.
- Follow the installation prompts to install the software.
Step 2: Connect OnlyOffice to Lynx
- Open OnlyOffice and link it with your Lynx cloud account via the Nextcloud client.
- Your Lynx files will appear in the OnlyOffice interface, allowing you to edit documents directly from the cloud.
Step 3: Edit Documents
- Open a document from your Lynx directory in OnlyOffice. You can now edit and save changes directly to the cloud.
- When offline, the document is saved locally, and once you reconnect to the internet, it will sync your changes to Lynx.
Mobile (iOS/Android)
Step 1: Download OnlyOffice Mobile
- Go to the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and search for “OnlyOffice.”
- Install the app on your mobile device.
Step 2: Link OnlyOffice with Lynx
- Open OnlyOffice and select "Add a cloud storage service."
- Choose "Nextcloud" from the available options and log in with your Lynx account credentials.
Step 3: Edit Documents
- Access your Lynx documents from within OnlyOffice on your mobile device. You can now open, edit, and save documents directly from the cloud, while offline edits sync once you're online again.
4. Using Files and OnlyOffice with Lynx
Step 1: Uploading Files to Lynx
- To upload files from your local computer or mobile device, simply drag and drop them into the Nextcloud interface (either via the desktop client or mobile app).
- Alternatively, you can use the “Upload” button within the app to browse and select files to upload to the cloud.
Step 2: Access and Organize Files
- Files in Lynx are organized in a folder structure. You can create folders to better organize your documents, images, and other files.
- Access your files anytime from any device—desktop, mobile, or web interface.
Step 3: Edit Documents Using OnlyOffice
- Open a document stored in Lynx using OnlyOffice to start editing, you can also use the built in editor but we recommend using the app as it has more features and a waay bettere experience.
- Changes are automatically synced back to the cloud as you work. If you are working offline, edits will sync when you reconnect to the internet.
5. Using the Calendar in Lynx
Step 1: Access the Calendar
- To access the calendar, click on the Calendar tab in the Lynx interface.
- You will see a monthly or weekly view of your events and appointments.
Step 2: Add Events
- To add an event, click on the date or time slot you wish to schedule.
- Enter the event details, such as title, description, location, and time.
- You can set reminders and repeat events as needed.
Step 3: Sync Your Calendar
- Your calendar will sync across all devices linked to your Lynx account. Any changes you make will reflect in real-time.
6. Using Notes in Lynx
To create and manage notes in Lynx, navigate to the Notes section. You can create notes, organize them into folders, and share them with other users as needed.
